Choosing Your Registered Training Organisation
If you are successful in securing a Mental Health Peer Work Scholarship you will need to choose a Registered Training Organisation to study with for the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work course. The information below will help you choose the best study option that suits your needs.
Course overview: CHC43515 – Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
This qualification is designed for people with lived experience, and personal recovery, of mental Illness or suicidality, or carers of someone with a mental illness or suicidality. This course will allow you to support people in their journey of recovery from mental illness, working in mental health services roles that support consumer peers or carer peers. Workers are employed in the mental health sector in government, public, private or community managed services.
To achieve this qualification, you must complete 8 core units, 7 elective units and at least 80 hours of work placement.
Before you study
- Before you study, you are required to have a USI (Unique Student Identifier) – this is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your vocational education and training (VET) undertaken in Australia. To apply for a USI or to check if you already have one visit www.usi.gov.au

The Mental Health Peer Work Scholarship will pay up to $4000 for course fees and $1000 for study materials and mentoring support for your study.
- Make sure you are aware of the compulsory requirements with the Registered Training Organisation you choose. For example you may require a National Police Check before you commence study or your 80 hours placement experience.
