Choosing Your Registered Training Organisation

If you are successful in securing a Mental Health Peer Work Scholarship you will need to choose a Registered Training Organisation to study with for the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work course. The information below will  help you choose the best study option that suits your needs.

Course overview: CHC43515 – Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work

This qualification is designed for people with lived experience, and personal recovery, of mental Illness or suicidality, or carers of someone with a mental illness or suicidality. This course will allow you to support people in their journey of recovery from mental illness, working in mental health services roles that support consumer peers or carer peers. Workers are employed in the mental health sector in government, public, private or community managed services.

To achieve this qualification, you must complete 8 core units, 7 elective units and at least 80 hours of work placement.

Before you study

  1. Before you study, you are required to have a  USI (Unique Student Identifier) – this is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your vocational education and training (VET) undertaken in Australia. To apply for a USI or to check if you already have one visit www.usi.gov.au
  2.  Check the details of each Registered Training Organisation in the table below, so you can make a decision on what suits you best. Ensure you check the course fees. The Mental Health Peer Work Scholarship will pay up to $4000 for course fees and $1000 for study materials and mentoring support for your study.
  3. Make sure you are aware of the compulsory requirements with the Registered Training Organisation you choose. For example you may require a National Police Check before you commence study or your 80 hours placement experience.

Duration options: 12 month enrolment: part-time

No fee to extend if extra time required

Once you enrol you can commence when you are ready. You will be provided with a classroom schedule or zoom schedule which provides you with the relevant unit information that you will commence on.Breakthru provides a supportive environment for students to help them through their learning journey. Students will have a dedicated Trainer and will be able to book in 1:1 study support sessions. For Virtual Classroom delivery, although attendance is required, all sessions will be recorded and made available to the participants should they wish to reference/use to complete their assessments.
