2025 State Pre-Budget Submission

The growing demand for mental health care in Queensland highlights that clinical services alone cannot address the needs of people with mental health challenges. Community Managed Organisations play a vital role in the mental health system, delivering services that help people live well in the community and prevent crises. We know more than 92,000 Queenslanders with severe to moderate mental health challenges are not receiving the services they need.
The economic and human cost of inaction is staggering, and the consequences of not addressing this unmet need extend far beyond the individuals affected. Families, kin, and unpaid carers are often forced to fill these gaps, taking on significant responsibilities—many without choice.
In this joint pre-budget submission to the Queensland government’s 2025 budget, QAMH, Arafmi Ltd, and MHLEPQ call on the Government to deliver long term solutions by:
- Jointly funding with Federal government, the identified gap in Queensland’s psychosocial supports
- Expanding the support available to families and other members of regional, rural and remote communities who provide unpaid care for those experiencing mental health challenges
- Commencing preparatory work for the next iteration of the Better Care Together plan
- Strengthening the embedding of Lived Experience across Queensland Government systems and services
