    Mental Health and Housing Position Statement

    According to the Productivity Commission’s Mental Health Report, “suitable housing — that is secure, affordable, of reasonable quality and of enduring tenure — is a particularly important factor in preventing mental ill-health”. QAMH and Q Shelter are calling for coordinated action to increase investment in supported accommodation programs.

    Closing the life expectancy gap between people living with mental illness and the general population is of vital importance. In this project, QAMH worked with the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute to co-design a service model to improve the physical health and wellbeing of people with mental health issues.

    In March 2020, the Queensland Government introduced a range of restrictions and social distancing measures in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19. This project reflects on these changes and identifies mental health service innovations and service models that might improve mental health service outcomes in the long term.
