QAMH Online Members Forum: Autism and Mental Health – Understanding the Autistic Experience

Members Only
At this online Members Forum we will be joined by Davina Sanders – Project Leader Autism & Mental Health Service at Autism Queensland. Davina Sanders is a clinical psychologist, and the Project Lead for the Autism and Mental Health Project at Autism Queensland, which aims to improve the mental health outcomes of autistic people in Queensland, by providing education to mental health practitioners and general practitioners. Davina draws on over 15 years’ experience in the mental health and disability sectors, as well as in academic research, and has a passion for inclusion for all.
Autistic people are significantly more likely to experience mental health difficulties than non-autistic people. To understand how to best support their needs, we need to understand the autistic experience. This session will cover essential information for mental health practitioners and organisations including neurodiversity-affirming practice, accommodating individual differences of autistic clients, and mental health treatment modifications and resources.
