QAMH Analysis of Unmet Need for Psychosocial Support Outside the NDIS Report
On Friday 16 August 2024, the Analysis of Unmet Need for Psychosocial Support Outside of the National Disability Insurance Scheme report was released.
Our analysis of this report reveals a critical shortfall in psychosocial support services across Queensland.
Despite ongoing advocacy, current funding structures remain heavily skewed towards acute care, leaving community-managed organisations, which are ideally positioned to address mental health issues early, underfunded.
The report highlights that Queensland is facing a significant unmet need for psychosocial support, with approximately 92,010 individuals with moderate and severe mental illness lacking access to necessary services. Nationally, the deficit is even more alarming, with 493,600 people missing out on essential support.
